South Korea, Japan maintain first bilateral talks since 2019, search stronger ties

UNITED NATIONS/SEOUL — South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida held their first one-on-one talks on Wednesday and agreed on the necessity to enhance relations dogged by historic disputes.

The assembly came about in New York on the sidelines of the UN Basic Meeting, the primary such talks between leaders of the 2 nations since 2019.
