President Joe Biden launched an announcement congratulating House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who was formally elected simply after midnight Saturday morning. He was sworn in about an hour later.
“Jill and I congratulate Kevin McCarthy on his election as Speaker of the Home. The American folks anticipate their leaders to control in a means that places their wants above all else, and that’s what we have to do now,” Biden mentioned.
McCarthy’s victory got here after days of prolonged deliberations within the House of Representatives, which began Tuesday and culminated with a dramatic pair of votes in a single day Friday into Saturday.

McCarthy gained the speakership in a fifteenth and ultimate vote, receiving 216 of the 428 votes. Six members, all Republicans, voted current.
After McCarthy was sworn in, the Home and all its newly sworn-in members handed a decision formally notifying the president of McCarthy’s victory and permitting communication from the White Home.
